Service Manager

Essential duties:

Oversee the daily on site operations at the Detroit crane yard for all units in the fleet including cranes, tractors, trailers and any miscellaneous vehicles. Maintain the grounds and buildings located at the Detroit crane yard.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create work orders for all preventative maintenance tasks including annual inspections.
  • Ensure the proper intervals between services as it pertains to the manufacturer's serial # and engine supplier
  • Communicate work order numbers to mechanics and operators when in yard 
  • Keep work order entries up to date and keep track of all repairs and their status
  • Develop a work order for bare rental inspections
  • Coordinate bare rental inspections (pre-and post)
  • Communicate with bare rental customer for Proof of Service records, when equipment is serviced on site
  • Track fuel inventory and schedule refills accordingly
  • Update hour meter readings within the fleet maintenance software, both for in-house equipment and rented units
  • Keep appropriate inventory and proactively seek the most cost effective solution for all shop consumables, tools and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain an approved vendor list for all purchased items needed in the shop
  • Maintain all inspections and Preventative Maintenance service records per OSHA requirements
  • Keep internal fleet management software up to date with current unit information
  • Ensure that all mechanics are up to date on all safety training
  • Prepare purchase orders within fleet management system
  • Match shipments with purchase orders and verify package contents with packing slips
  • Handle any out-going shipments, core returns or parts returns
  • May be required to produce and distribute both road permits and directional mapping
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

It’s essential you have these skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer proficiency including MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with a fleet management operations system
  • Must have working knowledge of crane operations as well as tractor trailer operations
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to assign tasks to members of the team to achieve completion of all work orders
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, company guidelines and standard best practices
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Must be able to operate a truck with a plow for snow removal
  • CDL preferred
