The New Faces of
JJ Curran Crane

We have 2 new members of our
mechanic staff, Steve Jordano (pictured left) and Tony D'Arca.

Steve Jordano has been in the union for 10 years and a mechanic his whole life. He worked for another crane company and decided to stop by our office one day last May. Soon after he joined our team. Steve takes a lot of teasing for being the only smoking mechanic but handles it well!

Tony has been in the crane business for 18 years working as an oiler, operator and mechanic. Through a conversation on a job site he learned that Curran Crane had an opening for a mechanic and decided to take on a new challenge.

Ironically, Steve and Tony went to high school together, both worked at a competitor crane co. and are now together once again at JJ Curran Crane!

We welcome Steve and Tony to our team!

Happy New Year from JJ Curran Crane and welcome to the January edition of Curran Events, our bi-monthly newsletter.

Curran Commitment to the Community

Throughout its 58 year history, JJ Curran Crane has recognized the importance of supporting our community and giving to those who are less fortunate. In 2008 we have committed to expanding this effort, through volunteering, company contributions and employee giving.

gleaners food collectionThe “Curran Commitment to the Community” initiative recently held a food drive benefiting Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan. Through generous contributions of many employees, 1 barrel of non-perishable food items was collected to be donated to the hungry. In addition, $220 was raised in employee monetary donations. The company matched this donation, giving a grand total of $440 to Gleaners. Each dollar earned is leveraged to provide 12.5 meals to the hungry, consequently, the efforts of JJ Curran Crane will provide 5500 meals to those in need.

Tradition of Sponsoring Youth Hockey Continues

Company founder, JJ Curran, who loved the game of hockey, wanted a place where kids could learn and play organized games. In the early 60’s he teamed up with Gordie Howe to build Hockeyland in St. Clair Shores.

Year after year, JJ Curran Crane continues to sponsor teams and tournaments around the greater Detroit Area. This year JJ Curran Crane is sponsoring the team of JJ Curran’s youngest grandson, Sean, a Bantam AA Travel Team out of Trenton. The sponsorship helped in the purchase of team clothing. In addition, a set of Red Wings tickets were donated and raffled off to use toward tournament entry fees.

JJ Curran Crane is proud to support youth hockey and the traditions of our founder.

What does software have to do with a company that is in the equipment rental business?

fleet cost & care Plenty – JJ Curran Crane, Michigan’s leader in large hydraulic cranes, utilizes NexGen FMS as the backbone of its management information systems. NexGen FMS has been developed by Fleet Cost & Care, a software development, training and support company whose products were created to meet the needs of businesses requiring total fleet management in the construction and equipment rental industries.

nexgenDuring the early 1990’s a search was performed in order to find software that would meet the needs of the JJ Curran Crane Company; software that would serve as its management information systems.  Software that would help us achieve operational efficiencies, manage our fleet better, and most importantly, improve our customer service.  After an exhaustive search found nothing, a programming staff was put together; we decided to write our own software. It didn’t take long for Jeff and Larry Curran to realize that there were many companies in lines of business that were similar to JJ Curran. In 1994, Jeff and Larry Curran founded Fleet Cost & Care. The software developed by Fleet Cost & Care is installed at over 250 locations including- Aruba, Canada, Ethiopia, Kuwait and of course, the United States.  Our software is used by large multi-location companies and by small owner operators.  The software is designed to schedule and track personnel, vehicles and equipment, record fleet service activities and track preventative maintenance. The key to our success is that our software was designed to be easy to use and effective at managing your business and its assets.
