Grove 875E

JJ Curran used their 75-ton Grove 875E rough-terrain crane to set 214 LED Daktronics boards around the lower and upper bowl of the Little Caesar’s Arena. Space and weight restrictions made this job a little tricky. Due to the weight restrictions of the center ice and rink footprint our crane needed to set up right next to future seating areas, while it hoisted LED panels to encircle both the upper and lower bowls of the arena.

Equipment:

Grove GMK 6400 and Grove GMK 6300L

Two of JJ Curran’s Grove all-terrain cranes played a pivotal role in the demolition of an abandoned building at an old General Motors facility in Detroit. We used a 350-ton GMK6300L and a 450-ton GMK6400 to assist with one of the demolition’s most difficult tasks: the removal of a 67.5-ton steel walkway. Contractors positioned theGMK6300L on one side of the walkway, with theGMK6400 stationed at the opposite side. After rigging segments of the walkway to each crane, a demolition crew proceeded to sever the walkway’s connections to the building’s walls and foundation. The free-hanging structure was then lowered to the ground, where the crew cut it roughly in half, resulting in two pieces that weighed approximately 35 tons each.

JJ Curran used its 450-ton Grove GMK 6400 all-terrain crane to erect its first tower crane, a Liebherr model 316 EC-H Litronic tower crane. JJ Curran is installing, operating, maintaining and dismantling the crane. The tower crane is 128 feet tall with 197 feet of jib. JJ Curran coordinated with the construction company and the ironworkers to erect the crane in a 3-day period. The crane will be operating at the job site for the next 12 months as the construction of the six-story mixed-use development progresses.

JJ Curran used two of their 120-ton Liebherr LTM 1100-2 all-terrain cranes to assist in the rebranding of the Greektown Casino. One of the cranes had a man basket attached to assist in rigging of the letters that were being dismantled and the other crane lowered them to a flatbed truck for transport. JJ Curran’s operators and our customer, Gable, worked together in a tight space with concerns for city traffic and surrounding buildings to complete the job.

JJ Curran used two cranes to offload and upright 6 stainless steel tanks weighing up to 31,000 lbs. in a tandem lift. The tanks were then set onto a permanent concrete platform using a Grove GMK 6300L. The job site was compact and required a detailed lift plan and precise execution by our crane operators, oilers and members of the Schwob Building Company.
